Hi everyone! I hope you all have had a wonderful Thursday! It is so hot here! The temp is already near 100 degrees every single day this week! Yikes! Trust me that's hot even for the deep south!
So, Jennifer posted yesterday that she is going to post her daily workouts here as a way to keep herself accountable! Great idea! So being the copy cat that I am, and because I think Jenn has the best ideas, I think I will do this as well! (BTW, Jenn, imitation is the best form of flattery ;)
Yesterday while sitting at the pool I ran into a girl that I know from church and some mutual friends that I don't see very often (we go to a large church that has 3 morning services). She started running last September with a mutual friend and they had originally asked to join one of my training groups (for those of you that don't know, I conducted 3 training groups last year to get women started running!) however, I was already in the middle of conducting 2 separate groups and the times were just not right for them. They decided to go it alone, but with the help and advice of a long time marathoner that they know. (They did wonderful BTW, and ran their first 5k just weeks later, followed by a 10k the next month, a 15k this past spring and then their first half marathon in April) Anyhow, after they were up and running consistently for a few months they would periodically ask me to join them. I never did because they run at night and I don't know if its how I've conditioned my body these past 3.5 years, but I simply am not a night runner! When I run at night I feel like every single ounce of food I have eaten that day is just sitting in my stomach bouncing up and down, lovely, I know! But, they were firm on their running times and I on mine so the three of us were destined to never run together! So, yesterday when I saw her she said "you will never guess what we did yesterday! We ran early in the morning and we are going to do it again tomorrow, so will you please join us?" Of course I was just as excited as she was so the three of us made plans to meet up this morning. When I got there they began to apologize in advance for their "slow pace" and how they are no good at all, newbies at best. I'm thinking this will be great since I really need a slow recovery run after the speed work I did on the treadmill the day before! Let me just tell you not to believe everyone that says they are terribly slow! These girls shocked me with how quickly they have picked up a pace that I wasn't anywhere near during my first year running! Here are the splits:
Mile 1: 9:15
Mile 2: 8:49
Mile 3: 8:58
Mile 4: 9:00
Mile 5: 9:11
Mile 6: 8:59
Slow? I think not! However, I did get a Face book message from one that said the pace was definitely faster than they normally run but that they liked it and hoped I would join them again!
So, that's all I have for today! I hope you guys have a wonderful Friday! I have big plans to hang out with Jennifer at the pool tomorrow and read magazines and eat Swedish Fish! Did you know that tomorrow is "Besties-hanging-by-the-pool-day"?
