Should I?

Today while at the club pool with the kiddos, I saw a friend whose daughter goes to school with Big Girl. The last time I saw her we were about to run a 5k (my first one). She asked me today how running was going and I told her about the 10k and the half-marathon I am training for. She told me about a running club she is in. They meet at between 4:45 and 5 a.m. every morning and run 11 to 13 miles. She said that not everyone runs that far, some run just half and then turn back. They incorporate hills in the run. She said not everyone shows up everyday but there are always at least 10 there. She invited me to join them. They are running tomorrow morning at 5. Should I go? I'm a little nervous. I guess because all this time I've been running by myself. I'm a little scared to run with other people. I also like the fact of having people there looking for you and when you don't show up they ask you why. That's a great motivator. Should I? Opinions? Anyone else in a running club?

I think it would be great! I actually joked to my neighbor that I would pay her gym membership if she would commit to going with me. It is so much better to do things with people...everyone has a touch of competitiveness to them and that would be great motivation to help you train.

Good luck in whatever you decide. Did you see my comment about the splash pad? Let me know if you get a chance. Thanks

TOTALLY GO! I have no idea the trail of blogs that led me to yours, but I'm hooked! I am so jealous you found a group to run with. Even if the early hour sounds freakishly CRAZY. It wil totally be worth it (at least to try a couple of times.) I desperately wish there were others to run with in my town. My husband's also a runner, but with 2 small kids it's almost impossible to go together early in the morning. Hope you fill us in if you try it!

A running group sounds like a great motivator, but at 4:45 before the sun comes up? Way too early for me. But maybe like jess said, once in a while would be okay, so long as you can go back home and go back to bed and not have to be up the rest of the day.

It sounds like a good idea, but the time would NOT work for me! I like my sleep, but you are getting up early now aren't you?? Let us know if you go in the morning...and when are you making the "big surprise announcement?" I am dying!

When I've trained for longer races, I've always had a friend or two meet to run the long runs on the weekend. The shorter stuff during the week, I prefer to do on my own, it's just more convenient. But, it's very motivating to have someone else to run with, so I say if any of the girls in this club run a similar pace to yours (cause that's ultimately more important than distance), DO IT! At least for the long runs!

I do not run (yet), but I do think that it would be great. As you said, it would be a good motivator. Plus, I think it would be a lot safer being with people than just running alone.
Whatever you decide, I'm sure will be the best for you.

If it isn't too far away where they meet and you wanna go, I say go! It would be safer running in a group than by yourself too! I am just so proud of you... I've been bragging on you to my friends : )

JUST DO IT! or I hope you did it? I've found a new walking buddy. And I'm so much more motivated. I am gradually working her into wogging. I wog after we walk.

Do it, do it, do it!!!!!!!!!!
